it all depends what message its sending.. someone i know used to listen to music about suicide alot and well.. he found himself thinking about suicide alot.. he wondered why he was so tempted to commit suicide and there it was right in the music he listened to.. and so he got rid of the music and eventually those thoughts went away too.. so if the death metal youre listening to is singing about bad stuff you shouldnt be listening to that
PS: LOL about the home and gardening.. the mythbusters had plants listening to a few different types of music to see which 1s grew most and one of those types of music was death metal.. i forgot which grew most:/
